December is never really a huge month for video game releases and 2018 is no exception.

That said, there are a handful of games that deserve to be examined. In fact, there are at least two that could become unavoidable for hardcore players. It starts with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The latest edition of the hit Nintendo series arrives in stores on December 7th and is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

Beat-em-up contains 74 playable characters from a series of iconic game series. Take a look at this extended trailer below which shows some gameplay:

Visually, it's easily the most beautiful game in the series. If you are a Switch owner, it's hard to imagine that this game would not spark your interest. Let's look at the other four versions you should have on your radar just before Christmas.

Just Cause 4 [PC, PS4, XBO] – December 4th

Rico Rodriguez is back for Just Cause 4 and the world created by Avalanche Studios, on the shoulders of the new powerful Apex engine, looks pretty awesome in the trailers and deep dives I've seen. The one below is an excellent example.

the Just cause The series is known for its fun and crazy gameplay and all the signs suggest to continue on this path. Going out too late in the year is risky, but if you have a PS4 and an Xbox One, it may be the last game of the year that makes your Christmas list.

Replacement: Mech City Brawl [PC, PS4, XBO] – December 4th

If you like mech games, find out. There are a number of ways to play, including a story mode, but the developer, The Balance Inc, has not yet produced the kind of titles to turn players' heads. We are talking posthumously, a beat-em-up martial arts / zombie and other little known titles.

Replacement: Mech City Brawl is published by Modus Games who also released the ambitious but repetitive Extinction earlier this year.

The visual effects are sharp, but if you played a title with flickering controls, you know that it can spoil the whole experience. Hope this is not a problem in this one and we will have the opportunity to play it to give more information after the publication.

Battlegrounds of the unknown player [PS4] – December 7th

The popular title of royal battle is finally on PS4. PUBG was at its peak as a PC game and many fans were disappointed with the Xbox One version.

PS4 fans are hoping to get an upgraded and more refined version on their console. We will know for sure in a few weeks.

Borderlands 2 VR [PSVR] – 14th of December

Many traditional players and Borderlands fans are hungry for the announcement of Borderlands 3but that still has not happened. That said, Borderlands 2 VR arrives on PSVR in December and promises to maintain the bold personality and humor of the series while providing a whole new VR style.

I had a hard time finding many reasons to play my PSVR, but if you are older Borderlands fan, this may be the boost you need.
