It's almost hard to imagine that the compact crossover and the first level of the Land Rover family have been around since 2011, so we needed to replace another one. And this new car, which we'll be seeing at LA's auto show next week, looks pretty like the old car, but it's completely new under the skin. It debuts in the new Premium Transverse architecture and, although it is not bigger than the Evoque, it is considered to be more spacious inside, more rigid and calmer.
Two engines are available at launch: a 2.0-liter turbo four or a soft 48-volt hybrid version. These engines are good for 246 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, or 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, respectively. Both models come standard with all-wheel drive, a nine-speed automatic transmission and Land Rover's Terrain Response system with six modes for different types of traffic conditions.
There are also some cool gadgets at work. The new Evoque launches Land Rover's ClearSight Ground View technology, which allows you to see the ground 180 degrees on one of the touch screens. Whether you're in a small parking space or doing a bit of off-road driving, you can see what you've missed so you can position the car exactly where it needs to go. It's a pretty smart idea.
