Windows 10 has made great progress this year to surpass another Microsoft software and become the most popular operating system in the world.
Since Windows 10 came out, it was fighting against Windows 7 for the crown of the most popular desktop operating system.
And this year, Windows 10 has made great progress, approaching Windows 7.
According to NetMarketShare, at the beginning of 2018, Windows 10 held 34.29% of the operating system market, compared with 42.39% for Windows 7.
But in October, Windows 10 was at 38.28% and Windows 7 at 39.35%.
While Windows 10 reached the crossover point with Windows 7, PC fans received another reason to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft's operating system.
In November, Microsoft fixed a "zero-day" vulnerability that affected older versions of its operating system, including Windows 7 and Server 2008.
The latest Windows 10 flagship software has not been affected, highlighting the benefits of using the latest and most up-to-date operating system available.
The threat was discovered by Kaspersky Lab, who exposed the dangers of vulnerability in a blog post.
They explained that when this vulnerability is exploited, an attacker could install programs, create new user accounts, and view or modify data.
In his blog, Kaspersky Lab said: "In October 2018, our Automatic Operation Prevention (AEP) systems detected an attempt to exploit a vulnerability of Microsoft's Windows operating system.
"Further analysis revealed a zero-day vulnerability in win32k.sys. The exploit was executed by the first step of a malware installer in order to gain the necessary privileges for persistence on the victim's system.
"Up to now, we have detected a very limited number of attacks using this vulnerability.
"The victims are located in the Middle East."
Kaspersky Lab told Bleeping Computer: "According to Kaspersky Lab's experts, there is no clear idea of who might be at the root of the attacks.
"However, the developed exploit is used by at least one APT player."
If an attacker attempts to exploit the vulnerability on computers running the latest security update, the system in question crashes.
In other news of Windows 10, Express.co.uk recently reported that PC users were alerted by a new bug.
Spotted for the first time by Windows Latest, the latest issues seem to concern fans of Windows 10 who are still watching content via Windows Media Player.
After the last Windows 10 update is installed, it appears that the search bar stops working.
Microsoft is clearly aware that this upgrade caused an error in the message displayed on its support page stating, "After installing this update, users may no longer be able to use the update. search bar in Windows Media Player when playing specific files.
"Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in a future release."
