Fortnite Mobile has earned about $ 100 million during its first three months in the market, according to new data collected by the Sensor Tower digital market research company. The achievement is even more impressive considering that Fortnite is still available only on iOS and has spent the first two weeks of its availability as an invitation-only beta game. Whatever the case may be, the title generated revenue of $ 25 million during its first month on Apple's iOS App Store and an additional $ 25 million over the next two weeks. In the context of the industry as a whole, Epic Games has experienced one of the most successful mobile launches in the history of smartphone apps, with Fortnite's first quarter behind Clash of Clans of Supercell and Pokemon Go from Niantic.
Fortnite is expected to release on Android devices later this summer, presumably exclusively on Google Play Store. The Android port of the popular battle royal title still has no firm release date, and recent reports suggest that Epic is still in the process of determining the cross-play component of the game. While Sony has recently aroused some controversy by preventing cross-play features between its PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Switch, the Android version of the game should be fully compatible with the PS4, allowing players to continue their progression and to confront from other battles platforms.
While the Android version of the mobile game will almost certainly accelerate revenue generation, it is unlikely that it will do it by a factor of two or more; IOS players are not as numerous as their colleagues using Android devices, but the first group typically spends a lot more for in-app purchases than the latter, according to many trackers and application studies. Epic is expected to provide an update on the development of Fortnite for Android in July. The initial version of the game will probably not support physical controllers, but this feature should be introduced in the near future.
