Omega Maze Z was officially canceled in North America, making the United States the sixth country from where the game was banned. The PQube publisher issued the following statement this morning, solidifying the cancellation we all saw coming, saying:
"PQube is striving to broadcast Japanese content for its fans as close as possible to the source material." In the case of Omega Labyrinth Z, while PQube has worked with all relevant age assessment agencies in their respective territories, PQube must respect the wishes of the platform holder and have therefore removed all future plans for the European and North American release of Omega Labyrinth Z on PS4 and PS Vita. "
PQube does not explicitly mention the reason for the cancellation, but we all know what happened. With zero irony, and we imagine a very sober self-awareness, the very first image of Omega Maze Z posted below the company's statement was this screenshot at stake:
And maybe you start to see why this game has been banned. Sexual themes and presentation are very often exaggerated, and players are often asked to "stimulate" female leads by physically touching their breasts or other pieces and bobs through a touch screen, or by using analog sticks . Some of these characters appear, and sound, very young, which is rather crude.
When the game was banned in the UK, the Video Standards Council pointed out that the game was even more troubling because it would most likely appeal to younger players. It's super colorful, it has sparkling and friendly air, but it's absolutely relentless to present very mature gaming opportunities for the player. The council stated in a statement:
"There is a serious danger that impressionable people, that is children and young people who watch the game, conclude that sexual activity is normal sexual behavior. Insinuation and sexual activity throughout the game that suggests behavior likely to normalize sexual activity towards children.As a reward way gained by successfully navigating the game, the player has the ways to sexually stimulate female characters using either a handheld device or a touch screen software.
"The VSC rating committee believes that this content in a game, which would strongly attract non-adult players, is a problem that would be unacceptable to the majority of UK consumers and, more importantly, could be significantly harmful in terms of social and moral development of young people in particular. "
We can not say that we disagree. We thought of including a trailer in this story as a point of reference, but it was too scary. If you decide to go get some gameplay footage for yourself to see what everyone is talking about, just make sure to open that bad boy in a private browsing tab.
