Apple taps LG to make OLED screens for the next iPhones, but Samsung remains

Apart from Samsung, Apple will apparently also have OLED screens from LG. This raises questions as to whether LG can match Samsung's excellence in screen production. ( Justin Sullivan

Too much dependence on a single company is bad for business, especially if this company is your fiercest rival.

Apple knows that is true, try to slowly rotate from Samsung, which is currently the only supplier of OLED displays for the iPhone X.

Apple obtains OLED displays from LG as well

According to Bloomberg, Apple has approached LG to be an alternative provider of OLED panels for the iPhone X and future devices. Having LG as a secondary supplier will help the Cupertino brand get screens faster and reduce costs. Part of the reason why the iPhone X is so expensive is because of its advanced OLED display, curved inward so the phone itself does not have a chin.

So true, this move could be a blow to Samsung's business. Because he's the only maker of OLED screens for Apple's flagship device, he can charge Apple's crazy prices, since it's not there simply no other company that manufactures OLED panels as excellent as Samsung. But with a second source, Samsung must now enter competitive prices with LG.

The tides have changed, it seems. Perhaps LG has improved its display department and can now produce panels that can sufficiently compete with Samsung's screens. Bloomberg claims that LG will provide between 2 and 4 million OLED panels as part of the initial agreement. This is nothing compared to Samsung's agreement to make 100 million, however.

LG, it should be noted, is no stranger to the displays. The South Korean company recently returned to the production of OLED displays with the V30 from last year. However, critics say that the screen quality of this phone is not as remarkable as Samsung's OLED displays, and LG must also face the fact that it has a smaller capacity of production.

Samsung's Dilemma

a lot of reasons to worry. It was reported last February that the company needed to reduce the production of OLED because fewer iPhone X units were sold than expected, which forced it to look for from other customers beyond Apple

. The V30's screen has been heavily criticized as being inferior to Samsung, and Apple, of course, is a company that feeds on the "premiumness" and "it works" qualities of its products. Time will tell how all this will unfold
