DJI's newest drone, the DJI Mavic 2, fled, giving a smoother preview of the drone. The new drone could point to a division of the Pro line, with DJI potentially leaving room for an even more powerful version, although there is still a lot to like in what we have seen of this model.
Up to now, DJI Mavic Pro was DJI's flagship drone. Intended to be more portable – thanks to folding arms – while offering a 4K video, it features 27 minutes of flight time and obstacle avoidance. Now, however, his successor has emerged.
This is the DJI Mavic 2, reports DroneDJ, with a tipster that sends a snapshot of the unannounced model. It has a more streamlined body than the current Mavic Pro, but seems to use the same folding mechanism. The engines are apparently larger, but they are not equipped with the "silent" rotors of the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum.
What is particularly intriguing, that is the whole camera and gimbal. For starters, the gimbal seems to be removable: one possibility is that DJI does it so that it can be used as a stabilized autonomous camera. We have already seen this with GoPro Karma. A second camera and a gimbal assembly are located next to the drone that has leaked, suggesting that there could be interchangeable systems.
That can go with different cameras. Admittedly, the image suggests two sizes of sensors, which could add modularity to meet different photography and videography needs, not to mention different budgets. If this includes a zoom remains to be confirmed.
Finally, front and side obstacle avoidance sensors are visible, likely to accompany bottom and back sensors. This would give a 360 degree detection around the periphery of the Mavic 2 as well as below.
As for how it fits into the DJI range, it's still subject to speculation. The fact that it is apparently the Mavic 2, not the Mavic Pro 2, could well mean that DJI has two new models under development, not one. The drone 's legs in the picture have silver bands that, according to speculation, might indicate in DJI' s language that it 's the entry – level model. A halo version might well be the Mavic Pro 2.
The differences between the two are not clear at this point, but we expect to hear soon at least one drone.
