Audi was not joking when she said that 2018 would be one of the busiest years in her history. The company unveiled the all-new Q3 2019 a week after introducing the updated TT range and a few weeks after expanding its range of SUVs with the Q8 lineup.
In America, where we do not get the Q2 pocket, the Q3 will continue to occupy the last place in the hierarchy Audi crossover and SUV. The designers gave the second-generation model a bolder, sharper look that borrows stylistic clues such as a slim, wide grille with a chrome frame and vertical slats from the aforementioned Q8. The flared wheel arches and contoured rear lights add a muscular touch to the design.
The Q3 follows Audi's turn towards more high-tech interiors. It comes with a 12.3-inch digital dashboard called virtual cockpit in Audi-talk that the driver can configure using the buttons located on the multifunction steering wheel. The center console houses a more basic version of the excellent MMI Touch Response infotainment system found on larger models, including A6 and A7. The graphics and key features are similar, but the big difference is that the Q3 has a screen instead of two, so it keeps the dials handy for climate control. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are both delivered as standard, and browsing the Internet with Google Earth integration is offered at an additional cost.
Audi notes that it made the Q3 nearly four inches taller than its predecessor. The extra sheet will not hit him in the next segment, just clear more space for passengers, especially those sitting in the second row. Well configured, the Q3 offers a reclining rear bench that slides about six inches. The trunk space is 23.8 cubic feet with five occupants on board and 53.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.
Audi has not unveiled the powertrain specification for the American Q3. That said, our SUV version will likely receive a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to provide 230 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It will spin all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission and the Audi quattro all-wheel drive system. Expect a warmer SQ3 and, if we are lucky, a high performance RS Q3 to arrive later in production.
The Audi Q3 2019 will reach exhibition halls across Europe before the end of the year. Dealers in the US will start receiving the model in 2019. And, believe it or not, the Q3 is not the last new car we'll see from Audi this year. The brand is putting the finishing touches on the e-tron quattro, its first mass-produced electric model, and it will show it to the public before the end of the year.
