The original Snap glasses, although designed more or less like traditional sunglasses, were not for everyone. The funky frame was … good, ugly, and the camera in one corner and the LED flash in the other were visible from a plane.
The originals were launched in 2016 and the company rethought them in April 2018 (technically called Spectacles 2), which made them smaller and lighter, but the design remained essentially the same.
But Wednesday, Snap launched Shows in two new styles, which will probably appeal to anyone who would like to try this gadget but look for a more traditional look.
The new styles, nicknamed Nico and Veronica, are still not your classic Wayfarers, but they are not at all those who shout like the originals. This is especially true for Veronica, whose lenses have a darker gradient upwards, which makes the camera and LED flashing much less visible.
Just like the originals, which are still available in Snap's online store, the new shows take pictures and HD videos and capture audio with two built-in microphones. They are also resistant to water.
What is different is the price: $ 199 instead of $ 149 for the original glasses. In addition, the new eyewear styles include polarized lenses and a semi-soft protective case.
The way Spectacles works has stayed the same: press the button at the top of the frame to take a 10-second video, or tap it 3 times to capture a 30-second video. Snap said that a new feature is coming soon: Snapchat will automatically arrange snaps taken with your shows in a highlighted story, if you choose to do so. The feature will be launched to users this fall.
The new glasses are available in the United States and Canada today, as well as in several European countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and the United States. Spain. And "later this fall," you can expect to see them in some Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom stores in the United States and other retailers in Europe.
