With the Apple iPhone event scheduled for September 12, I find it interesting that South Korea's reporting on a possible Samsung's folding smartphone is increasing, as to discourage iPhone sales. Patently Apple Tuesday released a report highlighting the confusion surrounding a Samsung cell phone. Samsung Electronics would have decided on specifications for its next foldable phone, a folding phone with an extra display on the outside, as shown in the patent figure below regarding a 2014 patent application. Of course, the design may vary because Samsung offers a large number of folding smartphone models from the simplest to the most complex.
The phone being developed under the name of the Winner project will present an OLED screen of 7.3 inches when it is unfolded like a laptop. The screen will have a curvature of 1.5 R, which means that the screen can be folded to wrap a circle of 1.5 millimeters radius.
In order to improve the usability of the phone even when it is folded, an extra 4.6-inch OLED screen will be attached to the outside.
Supply volume and timing of key parts were also confirmed. Samsung Display, the only display producer, is expected start placing coin orders from October, with plans to produce monthly 100,000 to 120,000 units of foldable display.
Industry viewers are paying close attention to the question of whether a foldable phone could replace the tablet PC market and bring new life to the stagnant smartphone market.
With Samsung, other Chinese smartphone manufacturers such as Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi have started to develop their own versions of a foldable phone. Samsung and Huawei, in particular, are competing for the title of "world first".
In the meantime, sources have predicted that Samsung 's collapsible phone would be very expensive because it uses two OLED displays and some parts that have never been mass – produced.
Will this latest smartphone / tablet really surface in 2019 or is it another fantastic rumor?
As we wait for Samsung's first collapsible smartphone, Apple will deliver a new series of iPhones next week that will wildly bury Samsung's two Galaxy S9 + and Note 9 during the holiday quarter. Oh, and by the way, it's a prediction that's going to happen.
