Samsung opens an AI research center in New York – The New Indian Express

NEW YORK: Samsung Electronics Co has launched here its sixth research center on artificial intelligence (AI) that will focus on robotics research, the company said Sunday.

The technology giant is seeking to strengthen its AI capabilities and has opened research institutes in South Korea, Great Britain, Canada, Russia and Silicon Valley in the United States, reported Yonhap news agency.

The new center, which opened Friday, is led by Daniel D. Lee, a leading AI and robotics scientist who joined the company in June.

"New York is one of the largest cities in the world and thanks to this new facility, we will be able to exploit the region's great talents," Lee said in a statement.

"We are also looking forward to collaborating with the best universities and academic centers in the region."

H. Sebastian Seung, a renowned neuroscientist, is the chief investigator of the center.

The company previously announced a plan to strengthen its AI research capabilities and employ approximately 1,000 specialists by 2020.

"We now need to focus on creating new values ​​that make people's lives easier by harnessing the power of AI in Samsung's products and services," said Kim Hyun-suk, president and chief executive officer of Samsung. Samsung Research.
