Samsung, of course, would never be content to launch a former regular competitor. Society just does not do that. While the basics of SmartThings Tracker are similar to those of Tile and a number of other startups, Samsung has packed everything into the product.
The device tracking device uses a combination of GPS to locate lost products. The addition of LTE-M, meanwhile, means that items such as lost keys, backpacks and other personal belongings can be found in a much wider range of settings than standard Bluetooth enabled products. This means, among other things, that tracking is easier to spot in and below the ground.
The device is compatible with Samsung's existing SmartThings app (a sort of catch-all for Samsung IoT) for Android and iOS, offering, among other things, real-time tracking. There is also a geofencing setting that allows the Tracker to turn into an arrival sensor to help trigger different smart home features when the wearer comes home. When he is attached to something like a dog collar, he will issue a notification when a pet has crossed a certain barrier.
The product will launch an AT & T exclusive on September 14, with a Verizon release launched later in the year. It's not really cheap, with a price of $ 99 – although this includes 12 free months of LTE-M service. Subsequently, it will cost $ 5 a month, which will quickly increase.
