Last week, Square Enix halted the physical and digital sales of its latest JRPG, The Last Remnant, on PC. The publisher has not provided any explanation for the seemingly brutal removal of the game on Steam, but the reason is now clear: Square Enix has announced that The Last Remnant was being remastered for PS4.
Originally released in 2008 on Xbox 360, The Last Remnant is a turn-based role-playing game set in a world filled with magical artifacts known as Remnants. The game embodies the players in the role of Rush Sykes, a young man who embarks on a quest to save his kidnapped sister and finds himself involved in a political struggle over the aforementioned remains.
The original version of the Xbox 360 was praised for its intricate combat system and stunning craftsmanship, but it was hampered by glaring technical issues. A PC port arrived in 2009 and solved many of the issues that affected the Xbox 360 version. GameSpot rewarded the PC by the 8/10 version, writing in our review Last Remnant, "By correcting the frequency of the Xbox 360. images and other technical issues that hindered the Xbox 360 version, Square Enix has improved the entire experience. Shine on their own terms. "
A PS3 version of The Last Remnant was also originally announced, but has never been released, making it the first time the RPG will be available on a Sony console. Square Enix says the upcoming remastered uses Unreal Engine 4. You can take a look at some screenshots and a trailer of the game above.
The Last Remnant Remastered digital versions for PS4 on December 6th. It can be purchased for $ 20. Although initially launched on Xbox 360, neither an Xbox One version nor a PC version have been announced. Given its recent Steam write-off, it looks like the game will reach at least this last platform.
This is not the only surprise remaster that Square Enix has announced recently. Earlier this week, the publisher revealed that a remastered version of the Final Fantasy Final Fantasy GameCube spin-off, will be released on PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2019. Unlike the original version of GameCube, which allowed to four players to live together locally, but only if each had a Game Boy Advance system, the upcoming remaster will offer multiplayer online.
