Format: PS4, Switch, Xbox One
developer: Visual Concepts
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
What is it?: A video game of 2K Sports basketball. "NBA 2K19" celebrates the 20th anniversary of the franchise and the publisher 2K Sports and the developer Virtual Concepts have really stepped up their game. It is quite possible that "NBA 2K19" is their best offer at the moment.
The hights: "NBA 2K19" offers several fun modes to scrape your hips. My team, always a nice destination, gives life to basketball cards. Collect cards from your favorite players and shuffle them to create your own team in the field. A ton of things to unlock, from uniforms to shoes to rewards, make it a fun destination for budding GMs.
My league also came back, allowing players to play their hoop dreams over several seasons. If you want to run every aspect of an existing franchise, from finance to staff decisions, you can do it. If you just want to play in the playoffs, play a single NBA season or up to 80 seasons, you can do it too. You can even create your own expansion team or use one of the many historic NBA teams available. My league is a great way to get off a ridiculously deep basketball bunny hole.
But wait, there is more! Players can relive the action from a day of NBA clashes by playing them in the game. Players can learn more about 2KU hoops. You can even play street ball. And almost all of these things can be done online with friends or against random people. There is so much to do!
Despite so many choices, I returned to My Career, which is the culmination of this year's 2K iteration. I've long had a love / hate story with this mode in "NBA 2K" titles, but not this year. Although there are still some problems (you have to fight through several moving screens and your character is a little shaken), everything about this mode has been improved by leaps and bounds. The story is more engaging than ever, your player's course is fascinating (who knew that the ants of Fort Wayne were real?) And the keys of humor are at the rendezvous. A ridiculously deep mode, I just returned to My career again and again.
Low: My career has been significantly improved, but building your scrub player to all-star can be a challenge. The scoring system stays tough and your player can be scored negatively even if you are in the right position. In addition, you lose more points for simple mistakes than you win for a positive game. It was frustrating, until my player was ranked high enough to overcome minor errors. However, playing with fear because you are afraid of making a mistake can be annoying.
Note: Despite some minor problems, I had a blast with "NBA 2K19". This title is an appropriate tribute to an excellent franchise.
