In a few hours, the rumor of the iPhone X will end this year, Apple finally revealing the three iPhones 2018 which we have heard so much. So it does not seem fair that a well-known pirate Apple publishes a report on the successors of the iPhone Xs 2019, just as Apple is about to announce this year's models.
Ming-Chi Kuo, who has made a name in recent years for disclosing Apple's plans early, said in a research note Apple Insider that the 2019 iPhones will not adopt a 3D camera at the back.
TrueDepth is the 3D camera system that makes face recognition possible on the iPhone X. All 2018 devices will have TrueDepth front cameras. The new iPads also benefit from this feature, according to several reports.
In his report, Kuo refers to a different type of 3D technology for the rear camera, the flight time (TOF), which measures the time it takes for light to move to and from a target. TOF cameras can be used to enhance augmented reality (AR) experiences on the iPhone.
But the analyst believes that a TOF camera would not be enough to provide better AR applications. Apple would also need a 5G connectivity, AR glasses, as well as a "more powerful Apple Maps database" to enhance the AR on the iPhone. Kuo thinks that Apple Maps will be the "killer" app for Apple's cutting-edge AR experience.
The analyst believes that Apple will use a dual camera system on the successor of the iPhone X next year:
We believe that the dual camera of the iPhone can simulate and offer enough distance and depth information for taking pictures; It is therefore not necessary that the new models 2H19 of the iPhone be equipped with a ToF at the back.
According to rumors from previous months, Apple was considering adding a third camera to the rear-facing camera configuration of the iPhone in 2019, just as other competitors are adopting triple cameras. Until now, only Huawei has used three rear cams on a phone, but others should follow soon, including Samsung. Oppo, meanwhile, has just launched a triple cam phone, the R17 Pro, a version of which will become the OnePlus 6T, and the R17 Pro has a TOF sensor in the back.
Two of this year's new iPhones will have two rear cameras, including the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max / Plus, while the iPhone 9 (Xc / Xr) will only have one main camera.
