Apple did not release its HomePod speaker from the big iPhone event, and the CEO, Tim Cook, introduced some new features for the product at the end of the presentation. In an upcoming update, the Apple speaker will allow you to search for songs via Siri by requesting specific lyrics snippets. You can also make and take phone calls from the device, and ping your iPhone in case you have lost it somewhere in your home, in the same way as the ping function of the Apple Watch.
More importantly, you will soon be able to set several timers on the HomePod. Multiple timers are one of the best features for any modern smart speaker, allowing you to keep it in the kitchen and play music while cooking. This is one of Alexa's most used features on Amazon's Echo speaker line. We do not have a specific date for the arrival of these features, but it is safe to say that they will probably be ready with the deployment of iOS 12 next week, September 17th.
