PS4 owners feel driven by the new 6.0 update

Sony today released a new firmware update for the PlayStation 4, a nice round figure of 6.0. Such punctual updates often mean important new changes for a platform, which fans were hoping for. This wish list could even include name changes because PSN users are nothing more than imaginative dreamers. Unfortunately, the update did not bring any name changes, nor any other new feature, leaving many PS4 players in disbelief.

"Either there is a huge announcement of hidden features coming up, or it's the biggest troll of an update," reads the first comment on the post about the new firmware on the PS4 subroutine. Its official description reads simply as follows: "This update of the system software improves the performance of the system".

In response, someone on a topic from the ResetEra forum on the subject wrote "Why was not it 5.6 if it was just stability?" Something is wrong, "a feeling shared by others who are convinced that there must be another shoe to give up, partly because of unverified rumors and mysterious advice by PlayStation employees.

Sony has had a lot of these types of updates. In fact, this is a joke. Performance always improves or becomes more stable, as things sound good but are extremely vague.

"My playstation is so stable that I could have a horse," said a Reddit poster in response to the latest update.

Firmware Update 5.0, released last October, was an exception. In this case, Sony used the serial number to develop new tracking and messaging features for other users. Even 5.50 added support for custom background wallpapers.

The fact that the beta test period of 6.0 even seemed to be a good indication that this could also bring about noticeable changes. Instead, the biggest patch arrived separately at the end of last month when Sony corrected the operation of the search on the PlayStation Store by adding a full keyboard and the ability to search by name and genre of publisher.

It is still possible that hidden changes are hidden in the latest firmware that Sony has chosen not to mention in the patch notes. It would not be the first time. The 3.5 firmware was full of hidden nuggets, such as the ability to disable the screen capture notification that appears after capturing an image. Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the fact that this is the case with 6.0, and what is the logic behind the numbering of its updates.

My favorite theory of fans to explain why 6.0 has been postponed so quickly, even though it only seems to include a small improvement in performance, Sony can beat Nintendo at 6.0 level. The Switch 6.0 update is scheduled for next week, Sept. 18, and will include the launch of its paid online service.
