Etisalat is working with Apple to make the features available to customers in the near future
Dubai: The new models of iPhone – iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max – which will be launched on September 21 in the UAE will not support the eSIM (integrated SIM card) in the near future.
An eSIM is a digital SIM card that allows users to activate a cellular plan from an operator without having to use a physical SIM card.

"We are working with Apple to do it [eSIM] available to customers in the near future, "said Etisalat in a statement.
Du said in a statement that eSIM handsets will not be available on their network in the UAE.
In July, Du told Gulf News they were investing in the infrastructure needed to deploy e-SIM enabled products in the UAE. He did not specify a date.
The operator stated that he was actively working with TRA, the GSMA [a trade group that represents network operators using GSM technology] and technology partners to bring technology to its customers.
According to the Apple website, countries such as Austria, Hungary, Canada, India, Croatia, Spain, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States support the eSIM system.

Sukhdev Singh, executive director of market research and consulting firm Kantar TNS, told Gulf News that Apple provides eSIM technology and that it is ultimately the telecommunications operator that must provide connectivity.
"With eSIM, users do not need to change SIM cards when they travel to another country. Switching between operators will be easy. They will be able to connect to the networks of the operators in the same way that they now choose the WiFi networks and also roaming, "he said.
He added that the eSIM is a very recent technology, only a few devices support it and that it has not been the case.
"People still have the habit of carrying two SIM phones or two smartphones. It will take time for people to connect to it, but the future will be at the ISS for connected devices such as the Internet of Things and the machine-to-machine, a- he declared.
The Apple Watch Series 3 series was supported by eSIM in the United Arab Emirates, with the support of Etisalat. The operator also offers eSIM service on some cars such as Toyota and Nissan for connectivity.
