Apple officially announced on Wednesday that September 17 is the launch day of iOS 12 – and the update is finally here. This is the operating system that will power your iPhone ($ 825 on Amazon Marketplace), iPad ($ 345 on Amazon Marketplace) and iPod touch for the next year. In other words, it's a big deal.
With iOS 12 finally on us, let's look at everything you need to know.
When can I download it?
Now. Apple released its iOS 12 update at 10am Pacific Time on Monday, September 17th. Update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 12 now.
Compatibility of the device
If your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is running iOS 11, it will run iOS 12. This means that all iPhones start with the iPhone 5S. That's the short answer, but we also have a more detailed answer right here.
Smoother and faster
The headline feature of iOS 12 is not something we can explain by screen captures. It's something you have to experiment on your own. Instead of introducing countless new features in iOS 12 and adding to some already complex (and frustrating!) Bugs, Apple is using iOS 12 to improve the overall performance of its lineup. iOS devices.
Applications need to open faster, scrolls need to be smoother, and fewer accidents are needed.
Best new features
Siri becomes smarterbut you will work harder at first. Siri shortcuts are tasks that you can create and trigger with a custom command to send SMS, read a podcast, and get directions to your favorite ice cream shop.
Reduce screen time: The new iOS 12 tools tell you how often you pick up your phone, how many notifications you receive and how much time you spend using various applications. Trust us: It's scary to see accurate numbers for how long you spend on your phone.
Better management of notifications: One of the main reasons why we touch our phones so often is the number of alerts we receive. iOS 12 has new tools to reduce unnecessary alerts.
Some minor changes to the posts, but a big change to FaceTime: After a few years of adding to the Messages app, the biggest change this year is a new photo tool. FaceTime was to add group calls up to 32 people, but Apple has decided to remove the feature of iOS 12 at the moment. we should still see FaceTime group later this year, although.
Create your own Animoji: Memoji is a word that you will hear a lot this fall. A Memoji is an animated emoji that iPhone X users can create and use as Animoji characters from last year.
Closing apps go old school: Apple has changed the process of forced closure of applications on the iPhone X, adding additional steps. With iOS 12, things are returning to normal.
You have an integrated measuring tape: Need to measure a painting or other object? Apple adds a new app, Measure, in iOS 12. The app uses augmented reality to measure real-world objects. It's really cool.
iPad gets love
Apple has not spent a lot of time focusing on improvements to the iPad with iOS 12, but there are some new features.
The control center has moved on the iPad, placing it in the same place as the iPhone X.
There is five other features that the iPad will receive when iOS 12 is released, one of them is a new look at multitasking.
Secret features
Apple has covered much of the news of iOS 12 at the WWDC keynote, but not everything. We rounded up a few things that did not make the keynote here. Naturally, once we were able to install the beta version of the developer, we started looking for and found hidden features by our own means.
There is also this new trackpad feature that facilitates text editing on new and old devices. Check it out.
