Genesis announced today that the G70 will start at $ 35,895, including destination fees of $ 995, which exactly matches the price of a basic 320i. Both are rear-wheel-drive sports sedans, both of which have premium features; both have four-cylinder turbo engines.
But remember that the 320i is the cheap 3-series, the one with a less powerful version of the ubiquitous 2.0-liter turbo from BMW. It produces 180 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. You can get more power from a GTI these days.
For the same price, the G70 beat well: 252 HP with the eight-speed automatic or 255 HP with the six-speed manual transmission and 260 lb-ft of torque. Go to Korean on German and you get a lot more power right out. You need to get the $ 330K more expensive to match the Genesis, and even the latter has slightly more power.
The V6 version of the 3.3-liter twin-turbocharger Genesis is even more advantageous. This 365 horsepower car (no manual option, sorry) starts at $ 44,745 with rear-wheel drive. Again, this reduces the similar 340-liter 340i by almost four thousand, although this car can be used with a stick if you wish.
Of course, BMW is not the only G70 competition here. He enters a busy area of sports sedans with offers of Cadillac, Infiniti, Jaguar, Audi, Mercedes and more. But from our first test and almost all the reviews that I've read, it seems that the Genesis is struggling with extremely impressive specs and driving dynamics.
I do not think Genesis will put a brake on car manufacturers' sales overnight; how could he? But between price and performance, it's a newcomer that is definitely worth seeing.
