Toyota would be ready to put Android Auto in its cars

Toyota could finally give in and allow Android Auto to work in its cars, according to Bloomberg. An official announcement could be made next month.

The giant Japanese automaker was one of the last major manufacturers to announce CarPlay compatibility. After years of resistance, Toyota announced last January that Apple's embedded infotainment service would appear in its cars from the 2019 Avalon.

However, the company continued to avoid Android Auto, with security concerns being cited as one of the reasons for the late adoption. Meanwhile, Toyota has spent the last few years developing its embedded infotainment experience around Ford's SmartDeviceLink platform, which allows you to mirror some iOS and Android apps on a vehicle screen.

A Toyota representative would not confirm the report. "We understand that there is a demand for Android Auto and that we have not forgotten our Android customers," they said. "If we offer this feature, or any other feature, in the future, we will do so with confidence, because the privacy and security of consumer data has been consistent with Toyota's high standards."

A Google spokesman said the company "does not comment on rumors or speculation".

Android Auto is compatible with nearly 50 different car brands worldwide, which is slightly lower than the approximately 60 brands with which Apple has agreements.
