Many Pokemon fans were baffled last weekend when a strange, unidentified Pokémon – now known as Meltan – began appearing in Pokemon Go just after the last Community Day event. The monster could only be found in nature for 30 minutes (although it has since been observed sporadically in the game), and once captured, it would turn out to be an idem or another Pokémon, contributing to the mystery a deliberate teasing from Niantic. It turns out that was the case, and the unusual Pokemon now has a name. Here are all the details we have so far.

The Pokemon company confirmed that the strange Ditto type monster is a new species of Pokémon called Meltan. In a new trailer that the company shared, Pokemon Go's Professor Willow calls Professor Oak, the most eminent researcher in the main series, with news that Ditto pretending to be an unidentified Pokémon had been seen recently. Oak says that he remembers seeing the monster in ancient texts and that it is a mythical Pokemon known as Meltan.
