Fortnite Season 6 is coming: what can we expect? | Games

EThree months later, a large number of 125 million Fortnite players began to act as medieval religious fanatics, obsessively searching the map of the island for esoteric signs and symbols promising future cataclysms. The moment is back, as the Battle Royale game prepares for its sixth season, which begins Thursday afternoon.

Every season, Epic Games likes to showcase major changes to the island, new skins and new game modes through a combination of cryptic tweets and sudden scenic shifts in the landscape. In the past, we had cracks in the sky, comets and rocket launches, but what do we know about the sixth iteration of the game?

The purple cube

Since August, a purple gelatinous cube has been observed moving around the Fortnite map, creating a strange electronic buzz. Lately, he stopped at Loot Lake, where he turned the water into something that looks like blackcurrant jelly.

Players have been expecting a major change to this central monument for some time – the vast expanse of water is not popular with all players as it is a haven for snipers. One theory, based on an alleged leak on 4Chan, is that it will be the site of a new dome-shaped city built by Enforcers of Fortnite, a race of extraterrestrial overlords. Alternatively, it could become a kind of wormhole to another version of the island, with dark alternatives to the favorite skins.

Another theory, based on data miners rooted in the game's PC code, suggests that there could be a volcanic eruption, creating a lava lake. This seems unlikely – if Epic removes the lake because many players felt it was a boring obstacle, replacing it with a pit of molten rocks will not appease them.

There will be a party theme

This tweet, featuring a DJ with the head of a lama (the creature of the game's mascot), suggests that Fortnite is about to get a space on the theme of festivals or parties. The island already has some warehouses that turn into nightclubs filled with loud techno music and swirling disco balls, but we may be getting something bigger and more complex.

We all know that the masked star of EDM Marshmello is a big fan of the game – alongside YouTuber Ninja, he won the first Fortnite pro-celebrity event in June. Maybe he will see the new season with a live set?

This second tweet took us in a totally different direction. Is Season 6 going to give us a Wild West themed area, with saloons and six gun shoots? If so, will it be a new area or will it be deposited in geographically relevant palms of paradise?

That would be a good combination with the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 (not that Fortnite needs to give up advertising another game, but what the heck). The Wild West also offers opportunities for new weapons and new skins, but what about vehicles? The message "saddle" suggests the possibility of horses, which would be fun – just like the coaches of four players.

Sound improves

Agree, it's not gigantic, but it will add to the tactical element of the game. Epic Games has released patch notes for season 6 and it's about space audio. It will be easier to determine where another player is (and if he is higher or lower than you) from the sound of his steps, while the gliders also emit a more obvious noise to know if others players land nearby. . All of this should help you with those panicky panic moments when you're sure that the other surviving player is somewhere under your feet – until they shoot you with a grenade launcher a few meters above.
