Qualcomm had asked the ITC to ban imports of the AT & T and T-Mobile iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X models that use Intel chips. , citing multiple patent infringements.
Qualcomm did not request the ban of iPhones using Qualcomm LTE chips, on the grounds that a more limited exclusion order would be more likely to be granted.
An ITC judge said Friday that if Apple iPhones violate a patent related to energy management technology, a ban would not be put in place. The judge cited the "public interest factors" as one of the reasons the court ruled against Qualcomm.
Neither Apple nor Qualcomm have commented on this decision yet, but this is a major victory for Apple in its legal battle of several months with Qualcomm.
The two companies have engaged in an increasingly tense legal wrangling that began in January 2017. Since then, Qualcomm and Apple have filed more than a dozen lawsuits against each other .
Apple accused Qualcomm of charging unjust royalties for "technologies they had nothing to do," while Qualcomm claims that its inventions are the "heart" of modern mobile communication.
Earlier this week, Qualcomm escalated the dispute by accusing Apple of providing confidential business information and stolen trade secrets from Qualcomm to Intel.
