Nokia announces its first phone for Android Pie

The Nokia 7 Plus joins the small range of phones other than Google to update Android 9 Pie. Juho Sarvikas, Product Manager at HMD Global, made the announcement in a tweet today. Apart from Nokia, the update has been extended only to essential phones, eight Motorola phones and OnePlus 6, which runs a modified version of Android 9 Pie, as well as Google's Pixel phones.

Android 9 Pie brings a range of useful new features, such as adaptive battery, enhanced navigation, and enhanced notifications that reduce clutter. What's remarkable is that the Nokia 7 Plus will be the first non-pixel phone to benefit from Digital Wellbeing features, which display a dashboard of your phone's habits and track application time usage.

The update takes place in phases and will soon extend beyond the first 10% installation base. The Nokia 7 Plus is a $ 400 budget Android phone that is not officially available in the US but mainly targets Asia and India. However, the Nokia 6.1, which is currently available in the United States, should also be updated soon.

Despite the staggered release of Android 9 Pie, the deployment of updates has been much faster than in previous years. It is possible that this is due to a feature of Android Oreo called Project Treble, which is supposed to allow manufacturers to make updates simpler and faster on their phones.
