Google has been updating its most popular product, Chromecast, for more than three years. In recent months we have been hearing about possible updates. It seems now that someone has got their hands on the 3rd generation of Chromecast a little earlier.

Redditor has released this weekend an image of a new Chromecast purchased from a local Best Buy, which has been unpacked to find something quite different from a typical Chromecast. Although no internal specifications have come out because of this leak, we can see how Google has changed the design of the beloved streaming dongle.
The comparison image displayed shows the 3rd generation Chromecast next to a 2nd generation model, and the differences are clear. Both share the same basic design with a circular body housing the components and an HDMI cable connected for connection to the TV. According to Redditor, this new hardware gives up the magnetic connector that allows easy management of this HDMI cable.
Other changes we can see here include the removal of the shiny plastic design, replaced by a matte coating. It is also mentioned that the third generation of Chromecast is a little thicker than the previous version. The Chromecast logo has also been replaced by Google's "G" logo, which is commonly seen on other company hardware. In addition, this new version apparently still remains with a microUSB port.
It is not entirely clear that this is the Chromecast with Bluetooth and updated WiFi that we followed, but that seems quite likely. Redditor also mentions that the Google Home app needs an update to configure this new device, which helps to confirm its legitimacy. In addition, he notes that Best Buy had kept the SKU for this article until 9 October. It therefore seems likely that it will go on sale the same day as the Google launch in New York.
