Shenmue fans can finally be heard by Sega and Nintendo.

The Nintendo switch could get ports of classic Sega, Shenmue and Shenmue II. A conversation with members about the original Shenmue team, namely Eigo Kasahara and Hiroji Noguchi, was released on a Japanese site that suggested the possibility of Shenmue and his sequel to come on the Switch.

Noguchi and Kasahara both talked about liberating Shenmue and Shenmue II on the switch via 4Gamer. Noguchi seemed to share the feelings of the fans about carrying classic Sega games on Switch.

"The fans really showed their love for Shenmue – and for that, I really appreciate them. Personally, I think it would be nice if you could play Shenmue on the Switch anywhere … "

Meanwhile, Kasahara gave readers a more specific insight into why there is no Shenmue I or II on the switch again.

"Whether or not we can do something like that in real life, we take into consideration the opinions of the fans. The follow up might take a while, but it's definitely something I want to consider.

according to Nintendo LifeSega had conducted a survey before the Tokyo Game Show 2018, asking fans to discover the games that would interest them in their AGES line-up.

It seems that players were adamant about the inclusion Shenmue and Shenmue II on the AGES list. The games, created by Yu Suzuki, aroused keen interest and would have contributed significantly to the design of modern games. For example, the Shenmue series is credited for popularizing quick events in games like resident Evil or the tomb Raider series. Suzuki games are also credited for introducing open world titles, such as those seen in the Grand Theft Auto series.

Last August, high-definition versions of Sega's classics were released for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Fans wondered why there was no port available on the Switch since Nintendo's portable console – and its ability to play games on the go – would be perfect for the classic series.

Several theories have emerged to explain why there is no switching port for Shenmue and its sequel As shown by a thread of Reddit on r / NintendoSwitch, some players think that the HD versions of the games are being developed for the Switch, but have not yet been released.

However, some Reddit users suggest that Sega does not have enough confidence that Shenmue and her sequel will sell well on Switch. As such, the game company is reluctant to publish it on the popular Nintendo console.

Based on Kasahara's comment, however, Sega seems to be ready to hear what Shenmue fans have to say about porting the game to Switch. So, there may still be a chance.

However, one user reported another problem, more noticeable with porting. Shenmue on the switch – namely its size. The Reddit user argued that the switch may not have enough native storage to hold as much data, especially considering the new HD version. Kasahara could have referred to the size of the game when he talked about Shenmue ports for the switch takes time. The game list on Steam lists 30GB needed for installation, which would use all of the switch's internal storage.

The players are hoping Shenmue I and II to go out on the Nintendo switch. Until the official announcement, Shenmue fans will have to be content to wait for the release of Shenmue III in 2019.
