According to the product list of the monitor on the LG website in Japan, the new monitor is equipped with a VA panel providing 95% coverage of the DCI-P color space. Its response time is 4ms (GTG), its refresh rate of 60Hz, its contrast ratio of 3,000: 1 and its viewing angles of 178 degrees (horizontal and vertical). For the most part, this seems to be a premium display.
But where it seems to be weakening, this is where it matters most in the HDR. The nominal brightness detects only 300 nits. Ideally, HDR displays should be capable of generating 1,000 nits, although screen and TV manufacturers have released more affordable models that do not achieve as much brightness.
That said, most low-end HDR displays aim to reach at least 400 nits. In fact, VESA will not consider anything lower for its DisplayHDR certification, with 400 nits being required for its DisplayHDR 400 entry-level badge (among other criteria).
Although the brightness level is not to boast here, LG says the 32UK550-B ships are factory calibrated before being delivered to customers. Depending on the reliability of this process, it could mean that customers will not need to spend time fine-tuning the controls on the screen.
The 32UK550-B has a pair of 5W speakers and an audio output port. It also features a single DisplayPort 1.2 input and two HDMI 2.0a ports. according to PCWatch, the monitor will begin shipping to Japan on October 11th at the above mentioned price.
