Nest pops up the freestanding thermostat E only for Europe

Nest is offering a cheaper version of its thermostat, the Thermostat E, in Europe – more than a year after launching a similar product in the United States.

When we say similar, we think so, because this iteration of the thermostat E is essentially an exclusively European product. It has been specially designed to meet the requirements of the old central heating systems and boilers installed in European homes. So what makes it different?

The all – new Thermostat E is a standalone device that looks very much like the American version with its white edge and frosted screen. Your first clue is that it comes with its own little white pole, unique to European models. This gives you the flexibility to place it anywhere in your home, rather than limiting placement based on the location of your current thermostat.

The features and ideas are pretty much the same as on the original Nest Thermostat, though the company has also added a little something extra. Many users choose to let Nest Thermostats learn their routines over time, but the E Thermostat also comes with predefined schedules that you can choose to activate from the start. Calendars are based on the average Nest routines among users and differ depending on whether you are based in the UK or Continental Europe.

The European thermostat E is also distinguished by the fact that it comes with a second group product. The Nest Heat Link E is a gray fabric disc that replaces your existing wall thermostat and connects wirelessly to Nest Thermostat E, wherever you choose to place it. Like the thermostat, the Heat Link E contains a temperature sensor, which should help provide even more accurate temperature reading throughout the home (assuming they are kept in different rooms).

Nest designed the Heat Link so everyone could install it. This distinguishes the E Thermostat from the existing Nest Thermostat, which, according to the recommended company, is installed by a professional. Nest offers a step-by-step tutorial in its app, which she calls a wiring wizard, to guide you through the installation. The intention is to help reduce costs by installing it yourself.

The price of the current Nest thermostat including the installation is £ 314 in the UK, but the thermostat E will be priced at £ 199. You can always hire a Nest-trained technician to install it as you please, but Nest hopes most people will find it easy enough to incorporate it at a DIY time on the weekends.

The Nest E Thermostat will be immediately available for pre-order and you should see it in stores from mid-October.
