The new Yahoo Together app is a flagrant Slack scam

Would you trust Yahoo, a company that suffered multiple historical data breaches, during family conversations? What about everyday jokes between friends, roommates or in your book club? Five years after each Yahoo account was affected by the massive hacking of 2013, Yahoo and Oath hope you are ready to forget all that. Today, they are launching a new application, Yahoo Together, in the hope that it becomes the destination for group discussions and DMs of your life. It is available today on Android and iOS after being previously tested by invitation under the name Yahoo Squirrel.

Take a look at Yahoo Together and its resemblance to Slack is undeniable. (Slack is the most popular in the business, but can also be used for free by consumers.) From the general user experience to the color palette, through the personalized reactions that you can add to the messages Below, these two apps seem almost identical and Yahoo does it very little to differentiate itself from the application that has clearly influenced Together. However, Slack's third-party application integrations are missing and some other features, including voice calls, are missing. So it's not really a Discord competitor. And for now, there is no desktop application or web browser either.

A Yahoo account is required to use Together, but you can invite members of your group with a code that they have entered after logging in. Yahoo does not ask at least to sync your contacts with the cloud.

The rooms work the same way in both cases; you can set up public and private rooms in your group. Like Slack, the files and media files you download remain easily accessible to everyone, and Yahoo said they've done "powerful search" to sort everything. An activity view shows whenever you have been mentioned and you can deactivate the part you choose by sending a notification.

If there is one feature that Yahoo Together can call itself, these are the Smart Reminders. You can set a smart reminder for any message in a chat and, at the selected time, all members of the group will receive a notification about it. Another feature, Explosion, highlights your message with a color for everyone to see.

Ensemble exists for the same reasons as Slack: email is annoying and group texts are easy to lose. So, just a few months after the final closure of Yahoo Messenger, we report it to newsgroups. Good old chat rooms – though they're smarter than 10 or 20 years ago. Slack and Together are both rooted in the era of IRC, after all.

Why would you want to use Yahoo Together? instead of slack? Well, I do not know. Slack has had its share of dead time recently, but it is a much more detailed version of what Yahoo is trying to do here. and he went from a de facto work communication tool to a community platform that people use outside the office. Yahoo has a steep slope to climb if it wants to compete, and his commitment (and his oath) to the success of Together is indisputable.
