The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 TrailBoss is currently the best half-ton truck for off-road driving in the Chevrolet lineup. He gets a two-inch lift on a standard Silverado. He rides on Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires. Can it reach the top of Cliffhanger 2.0 – our most challenging off-road track test?
2019 Chevy Silverado 1500
The redesigned Silverado rolls on an elongated wheelbase. This Crew Cab Short Bed has a wheelbase of 147.5 inches. This gives a more pleasant feeling on the road and a much larger passenger cabin, but it does not help off-road vehicles as it reduces the tilt angle.
The truck lifted at the factory has 10.8 inches of ground clearance. This LT TrailBoss is equipped with tubular steel side steps. These steps are sturdy and provide good support, but they also hang a little and reduce the overall lateral play.
The TrailBoss 2019 (LT version) is only available with a 5.3-liter V8 and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The power rating on this engine is 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. This plate has a starting price of just under $ 50,000. This is the truck we test in this review.
If you are more concerned about your budget, you can also choose a custom version of the TrailBoss, equipped with a 4.3L V6 and a 6-speed automatic transmission. It starts at just over $ 43,000.
the Cliffhanger 2.0 is steep (about 20 degrees) Rocky Mountain trail with lots of loose rocks. I took the TrailBoss on the harder side of the fork "Action or Truth" trail. It is on this route that we take the trucks equipped with the most successful off-road sets.
Naturally, the TrailBoss is equipped with a low-range transfer case and a mechanical locking G80 rear differential. The engine, transmission and transfer case are protected by protective plates underneath.
The TrailBoss finally conquered the Cliffhanger 2.0. This was the hardest climb I've ever had. The conditions were dry and the ground very loose. I found myself stuck three times, but the truck left after backing off and tried a slightly different line. Although the traction control system was disabled in 4LO mode, the truck still partially reduced throttle after several seconds of tire rotation.
In the end, the 4 × 4 system and Duratrac tires took us to the top of the mountain.
