Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was released yesterday (you can check Steven's report here), and players are already finding ways to manipulate the game systems to gain an advantage over other players. Specifically, if you use a third-person emote, the camera will retract and rotate at will, allowing you to take a look around corners. This could be particularly useful in the blackout mode of the Royal Battle, which will allow you to see distant players hidden behind a tree.
You can see one of these examples in action below, thanks to the user -Sleeper_ of Reddit, who uses the Sitting Bull emote to squat behind a low wall and throw a long eye on the surroundings (-Sleeper_ is also the source of the image at the top of this article).
The developer Treyarch reacted quickly. In a Reddit article detailing bug fixes and planned changes from the first day, he stated that he was "aware that players were able to use gestures (often called by the" Emotes "community) for take a look at the modes in which an unfair advantage ". The planned fix will create a new system that will "disable free appearance and apply different camera settings" to emoticons in competitive gaming mode, said the developer.
The current system for emotes will continue to be used elsewhere in the game "where corner stunts will not affect the balance of the game", as in the lobby of the Blackout rounds preceding the game, he added. .
I am surprised that the problem was not detected during pre-release testing, but at least it is fixed.
Thank you, Eurogamer.
