Google is taking additional steps to secure user data with Android Pie. The tech giant recently revealed that cloud backup data from the latest version of Android would also be encrypted with a Titan security module located on one of Google's servers:
It's worth noting that even Google will not have access to encrypted data because the decryption key is protected by information that only the user needs to know – their PIN, their template or their password for lock screen.
It's no secret that many people use rather simplistic locking screen lock passwords, but it seems that Google has also considered this fact. The Titan chip will permanently block access to data if a malicious third party captures several common combinations to try to guess the secret code. To make sure that everything with the new technology is up to par, Google has even hired the NCC group, a company specializing in cyber security and risk reduction, to conduct a security audit.
Unfortunately, the number of applications using cloud backups is rather limited at the moment, and Google has not specified which phones would be able to use this feature, but more information is likely to appear in the near future.
