Winamp, the legendary music player that was a staple of computers in the early 2000s, is renewing itself in the era of streaming.

It will be an audio application that brings together music, podcasts and streaming in one place, according to TechCrunch.

The last update of Winamp goes back to 2013, year when it belonged to AOL. The Belgian online radio company Radionomy acquired the music player a year later, where it did not receive much attention – with the exception of a community project which aims to keep it up to date.

"You can listen to the MP3 files you have at home, but also on the cloud, podcasts, streaming radio stations, a playlist you may have created," said Alexandre Saboundjian, CEO of Radionomy.

"People want a unique experience … I think Winamp is the ideal player to bring this to everyone, and we want people to know about all devices."

Aside from the promise of uniting all these sources in one application, there is not much detail on how services will be available in the updated version of Winamp.

The goal of this redesign is to repair mobile audio because users still need to access and exit applications to use different services.

"What I see today is that you have to switch from one player to another or to an aggregator if you want to listen to a radio station, to a podcast if you want to listen to a For me, this is not the final experience, "added Saboundjian.

The Sonos app is already used for competing streaming services, but it's only so that you can play audio on the brand's wireless speakers rather than natively on your device.

Depending on the point of sale, there are still discussions to be done about the services available on the app, but one thing is always sure: Winamp still whips the lama's ass.
