Spotify is an extremely popular service, but it certainly has competitors. Apple Music is currently beating the service in the United States regarding the number of paying subscribers and, even though it's not as popular, Pandora continues to catch up in terms of features and risk being shoved during its recent agreement that would see the company acquired by SiriusXM. In order to remain competitive and satisfy its customers, Spotify is deploying an update for Premium subscribers.
In September, Pandora launched a new feature called The Drop, inspired by the Spotify playlist. Now, one of the most important features of the Spotify Premium update is returning the favor.
Endless Artist Radio is an upgrade from Artist Radio, which already existed for Premium subscribers. Not only are these playlists customized to your listening history and updated frequently, but they are downloadable so you can listen to them even when no internet connection is available.
Spotify has also simplified its presentation for easier navigation and to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. The Home screen lets you find your personalized recommendations, while your favorite songs, artists, playlists, and podcasts are all in the library. If you are looking for something new, you should consult the Search section.
The search page has been redesigned to become what Spotify calls "the new unique destination for artists, albums, podcasts, etc." This applies whether you know exactly what you are looking for or if you are looking for something new. but I do not know what it could be. The top of the page now shows your favorite genres, which may change over time depending on what you have been listening to recently. For some people, this may never change, but if you're a genre hopper, it can help you keep up.
In the blog post announcing the new features, Spotify describes them as "initial updates" of Spotify Premium. It is possible that other features are also available. These updates began to be released today Oct. 18 for users of iOS and Android apps around the world. If you have not received them yet, watch for them.
