As director Junichi Masuda teased for us last week, Pokémon: Let's go! will introduce a unique challenge during his postgame. Expert trainers scattered throughout Kanto's world each master a specific Pokémon. Your task? Challenge them all, all 151.
They are called Master Trainers and will only fight you once you have defeated the Elite Four and eliminated the Pokémon League. With your champion belt in hand, you can travel the Kanto region again to find these characters. They are designated by a thought bubble above their head highlighting their favorite Pokémon. Their favorite Pokémon is also the only one on their team and the only one they are ready to face.
So, if you want to face Master Charmander (that would be me), you'd better have a Charmander at your disposal. Overcoming each of these 151 competitors will require a lot of trade, evolution and capture, so these are even more challenging tests than the fights themselves.
Beating a master coach lets you take away their title, which is a bit sad, honestly. But it's an intriguing way to add a challenge at the end of the main campaign, which can be random with the Pokémon series.
