In April, Luke Winkie wrote what fans of Fortnite PvE thought when Battle Royale took control of the game they love. It's true: Save the World is often eclipsed by its BR counterpart, which could fade a little when the old one will also become free. Epic has announced that this will not happen this year though.
In a blog post, the developer says he's working on a "vast set of features, tweaks, and scaling the backend system" that he sees as crucial to being able to play for free . At present, they are not ready and, although Save the World has gained momentum since its launch in July 2017, "scaling up for legions of heroes from players who will join the fight is essential to provide an excellent experience. " As such, Epic is in no hurry to achieve this balance.
Elsewhere, Save the World is getting a revamped Hero system that should offer players more flexibility and customization of loads. The number of Hero slots will double from three to six, and Epic says it wants to "expand the variety of loads you can create." The details on this subject are not finalized yet, but Epic says we will have more to reveal soon.
Fortnite's latest state of development blog, Save the World, can be read in full here. As players wait for the free incarnation of PvE, Epic says the Standard, Deluxe, Super Deluxe and Limited Founder packages will cost 50% less than their normal price this week.
