October may have brought many flagship products to Android, but November should be even better for a simple reason: the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC18), to be held in San Francisco on November 7 and 8, is the place where we could learn more about the future of the company's Android hardware. Samsung is expected to reveal the folding Galaxy F phone at the conference, or at least reveal some details. And the company has already begun to tease the exciting new handset.
Samsung started to develop folding devices many years ago and we were waiting for the launch of the first folding handset for about two years. The device has been delayed many times, but we are finally getting to the point where Samsung will be sharing more details.
The Galaxy F, or what Samsung will call it, is expected to be in stores next year, but Samsung may unveil the phone next month to claim the title of the world's first folding phone. Huawei is also targeting the same title and the company recently confirmed that the first folding phone it will manufacture will also be its first 5G device.
Samsung released a video a few days ago for its developer conference containing an advertisement stating that collapsible handsets could be discussed at the event. The clip shows the profile of what could be a collapsible device that is open and unfolded for use in tablet mode.
The message is also pretty clear. We are at a crossroads "between the present and the future," and the Samsung event is where "meets now".
The move to foldable devices seems to be the next logical step in smartphone evolution and the only way to take advantage of larger displays on handheld devices, as we now carry handsets with all-screen designs.
But for Samsung to succeed in launching this new form factor, it will certainly require developers to invent new experiences making good use of a folding screen. According to information published in recent months, the user experience was at the heart of concerns when developing the foldable phone. In this spirit, it makes sense to see Samsung unveil the phone at an event for developers.
The SDC website18 reveals that developers will be able to "play with new technologies", although this is not specific enough to confirm that they will have access to prototypes of collapsible Samsung phones. The opening conference is scheduled for November 7 at 10 am, at which time the foldable phone will probably be announced.
