Xiaomi has officially announced the Mi Mix 3, featuring a slider to hide the front cameras and offering a real design without glasses. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is also one of the first Android phones to arrive with 10GB of RAM.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 comes with a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 and a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi claims the device has a screen / display ratio body 93.4% because it does not have a notch. To realize this design without bezel, Xiaomi used a sliding mechanism to hide the front cameras.
Unlike the Vivo Nex or the Oppo Find X, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 does not use engines to hide and reveal the cameras, as pointed out by The Verge. Instead, the sliding mechanism works like a traditional sliding phone where users will have to push it. The handset comes with a magnetic slider design on the inside to keep the mechanism safe. The cursor is not only used to reveal the cameras. Users will be able to assign different functions when opening the phone. For example, users can open Mi Mix 3 in open mode to answer an incoming call.
The slider houses a dual camera module with 24 megapixel and 2 megapixel sensors. The 24MP shooter uses a Sony IMX576 sensor, capable of processing poorly lit images. The earpiece is not on the slider because it is placed in the thin cover above the screen.
At the back, the Mi Mix 3 comes with a pair of 12MP cameras. One of them comes with a wide angle lens and the other with a telephoto zoom lens. The Mi Mix 3 cameras got a score of 103 on DxOMark, the same overall score as the Galaxy Note 9 and the HTC U12 Plus, as the Android Authority pointed out.
Inside, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with up to 10GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of storage. The device is one of the very first phones to offer this RAM capacity. The Black Shark Helo, announced by Xiaomi earlier this week, is the only other smartphone to have the same RAM configuration.
The Mi Mix 3 contains a 3200 mAh battery that supports fast charge 4+. The unit comes with a rear window and supports Qi wireless charging. The Mi Mix 3 is also compatible with 10W wireless fast chargers. Other specifications include Bluetooth 5, NFC and a USB Type-C port. Unfortunately, the headphone jack is missing from the device. As far as software is concerned, the Mi Mix 3 uses Android 9 Pie, with the company's MIUI 10 in mind.
The Mi Mix 3 will be available in three colors: black, green and blue. The device comes with a starting price of 3,299 yuan (about 475 USD) for storage model at 6GB RAM / 128GB. The 10GB model of RAM will be exclusive to the edition of the "Mi Mix 3" of the "Museum of the Forbidden City", which has a different shade of blue and includes a golden statue. This version of the phone will sell 4,999 yuan (about 720 dollars). Preorders are available now in China and the phone will be released on November 1st.
