Wither the iPad?

On Tuesday, Apple is expected to unveil the latest version of the iPad at a major media event in New York. It is unlikely that the output meets the thunder that usually accompanies iPhone launches.

The new models of recent years have shown few substantial updates and many consumers keep their original tablets for years. Apple still sells around 40 million iPads a year, which is well compared to the approximately 200 million iPhone delivered annually by Apple or the Services division, which includes iTunes, iCloud and Apple Music, which has already generated more than 15 billions of dollars in revenue in 2018, nearly double the $ 8 billion of the iPad.

Still, when we asked social media to know if the iPad still counted, we heard loud and clear, yes, but not as in the good old days.

Amy Howorth, who sits on the Manhattan Beach City Council, told us that she was using her iPad for town and home meetings to entertain herself on the couch, while publicist Jeff Koo of San Francisco said that he had not taken out his iPad in half. years.

Gary Lambert, who hosts a weekend radio show on Sirius XM in New York City, said that he was using the iPad Pro all the time to read articles and books, and "now that some of the Movie streaming and TV services let me temporarily download content, I do it every time I travel. Not in a hurry to get any of the new models, though.Lucky of what I have. "

The iPad is currently available in four models:

-The iPad Pro, featuring a 12.9-inch display, sells for $ 799.

-A smaller iPad Pro, with a 10.5-inch screen, costs $ 649.

-The 7.9-inch iPad Mini, introduced for the first time in 2015, costs $ 399.

-The model called iPad has a 9.7-inch screen and sells for 329 dollars.

The new iPad that should come out of the New York event should be redesigned in the style of the premium models of iPhones X, with end-to-end display and removal of the Home button. Analysts see the iPad using Face ID facial recognition system, instead of the fingerprint and possibly a new way to recharge the device, using the USB-C cable instead of the Lightning cable used by Apple for a few years.

Apple should also update the range of MacBook Air laptops and AirPods, the Bluetooth wireless headphones on sale for the first time in 2017.

To watch the live Apple event, go to https://www.apple.com/apple-events at 7am ET / 10am PT. Apple only lets you watch the live stream on the Safari browser on computers and mobile devices. If you do not have Safari yet, download it on weekends.
