Waze is preparing to release an update incorporating an integrated audio player on its platform, giving drivers direct access to their favorite audio streaming service. The company announced a beta version of Waze Audio Player, coupled with streaming services like Spotify and Pandora, as well as the Stitcher podcast app, among others. Waze also has a new suite of development tools called Audio Kit.
Old school radio is a thing of the past for many drivers who are turning to a mobile data connection and broadcasting audio content. A number of apps provide access to everything from podcasts and audio books to sports games and music. Accessing this content while driving is tricky.
Waze's integrated audio player will help simplify things for its users by providing selected audio streaming services directly in the navigation app. This follows the integration of Spotify from Waze launched last year; New additions include Pandora, Deezer, NPR, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, Scribd and Stitcher.
The Waze audio player is easy to access. It presents users with a small music icon in a bubble on the screen. When the driver wants to listen to music, just tap that bubble to open a scrolling banner with audio platform icons. Touching an icon triggers playback, so you do not want to launch another application, scroll through menus, and search for content.
The user must have already installed his favorite audio applications on his device in order to access them via Waze. Users have direct access to pause, transfer and return buttons, as well as the ability to "save" or save a track. Meanwhile, a "Show List" button displays other audio options such as playlists and recorded content.
