EEarlier this year, Classic Recreations, a car builder, announced that it had rights to build and sell the all-new 1969 Boss 429 Mustangs. At the time, we had only a few details and a illustration of what the cars would look like. But now that the real car has been revealed at SEMAwe know a lot more than before.
Classic Recreations claims that it is the only company officially licensed to sell 1969 copies of the Boss 429 and that every construction starts with a 1969 Mustang bodywork that it has restored to its original state. It is then transformed into Boss 429 with a new hood with the required shovel, a new bumper, 18-inch wheels and all the necessary logos. Inside, CR adds new seats, Boss 429 gauges at 200 mph, an aluminum steering wheel, air conditioning and a custom console.
But for your money, you get a lot more than a 1969 Mustang designed to look like a Boss 429. Under the hood, CR adds a 546-cubic-inch (8.9-liter) V-8 body engine that produces 815 horses. A Tremec manual transmission comes standard, but an automatic is also available. At the rear, you get a four-link rear suspension, while the front uses upper and lower tubular suspension arms, as well as adjustable coil springs. CR also adds front and rear anti-roll bars, chassis reinforcements and custom exhaust.
As you might expect, the all-new officially licensed 1969 Boss 429 is expensive. The thousands of hours of labor required to build one of these cars are not cheap, nor are the parts they use to turn the car into a modern Boss 429. But even knowing all this, the base price is still high. Classic Recreations requires a minimum of $ 209,000 for a Boss 429, and the price may rise from there, depending on the options.
Once again, for the good buyer, a meticulously constructed and modernized Mustang will be much colder than an ordinary Ferrari Portofino. In addition, 815 hp are not stunning.
