Diablo Immortal Practice Review: Have fun because it's Diablo

At the BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard revealed Diablo Immortal, an upcoming Android and iOS mobile game entering the Diablo series. Diablo fans' reactions to the game's trailer were not enthusiastic, but after playing a short demo, I have to say, Diablo Immortal is fun – because he plays like Diablo.

It's literally Diablo on mobile

Like Nintendo with Animal Crossing, Blizzard did not give us Diablo IV, but a mobile Diablo game. It was hard to ignore the collective whine on microtransactions, but I did my best to give the game a chance.

The demo gave me the choice between three classes: Wizard, Barbarian and Monk. I chose the magician because, well, she looked bold. Jumping in, I saw a familiar but simplified interface with a mini-map in the right corner, five action skills, an object in the bottom right corner, touch controls down to left and the level and health bar of your character at the bottom of the screen. at the top left. Interactions with NPCs, chests, dropped objects, and most tasks are done by tapping them, or the prompt that appears when you close.

I embarked on my quest and I explored, but I was, of course, ambushed by waves of enemies. Instead of pressing a button or key to launch an attack, I've tapped the skill icons repeatedly to knock down the enemies. It was easy, and it was all the easier as my character automatically targeted his close enemies.

Even with harder enemies, I found that the cure was so simple. I just hit the health potion, and my character's health bar has been restored. Then I continued to use a barrage of attacks until the enemies were gone.

Yes, Diablo Immortal is a mobile game, but it's also another important franchise: an MMO.

Simplicity makes it hard to see Diablo Immortal keep your players entertained for a long time without increasing the difficulty or adding interesting incentives. However, all of Diablo's past matches were easy at first, and Diablo III is never a challenge if you do not ride the difficulty. Blizzard promises that we will see a similar difficulty curve in Diablo Immortalbut I could not see it in my demo.

I can say that if you have already played a Diablo game, it will sound, look, play and play as you expect with little explanation. If you're new to the series, you'll be able to discover it quickly and, in return, learn how to play a minimalist version of a Diablo game.

It's a social experience

Diablo Immortal is a mobile game that made the headlines. Still, the game makes another important franchise: it's an MMO. I have met a lot of other players during my exploration. We often helped each other in the dense areas of the enemy, and it was an explosive chaotic pleasure. I also ganged up with others for a dungeon and killed a boss together, at the point where the demo ended.

Playing with others online has added to my pleasure of playing. This was especially true when we used our abilities to help each other. Another player could use his monk's Eye of the Storm skill to lure a group of enemies, then use the skill of my Meteor Wizard to smash them. Previous Diablo games have supported up to four players in one game, and Diablo 3 even let random players come in and out of games. Again Diablo Immortal focuses much more on the social by making others more present and allowing larger groups.

What about loot? Oh, do not worry. Loot is not lacking in Diablo Immortal. You can find objects lying on the ground after defeating an enemy or opening a chest. After tapping on it once to interact with it, you can touch it again to equip it. Before equipping, an icon will appear to show you how much an item affects your stats.

Mobile game or not, Diablo Immortal is fun and looks authentic in the styles of play and art.

Inventory management is a mystery, because the demo would not allow us to access the inventory of characters, so it is difficult to know how and if this system will change. It should be noted that the loot is not shared, so what you see is yours to take it. Legendary items will also play an important role in the game, as in previous titles, although the demo does not suggest how powerful these items will be.

During the interview with the Diablo Immortal group, Wyatt Cheng, senior game designer at Blizzard, said that Diablo Immortal the team is looking to Diablo 3 for inspiration.

"What I can tell you is that it's an online social experience and we expect the social aspect to play a role in the final game. We are looking for legendary items, "Cheng said. "We particularly like the way we work in Diablo III: Rebirth Souls, the legendary items have really helped you change the way you play and change skills. So we're looking at a lot of these kinds of end-stage systems and what's logical. "

Diablo Immortal is mobile and it's fun

I left Diablo Immortal with hope. It's funny because even though he's on the phone, the series seems authentic, both in terms of play and style. It's simple Diablo, and with the introduction of legendary items and some hardships at the end of the game, it could be a great Diablo game in its own right.

Yes, you are looking for a Diablo 3 continued in Diablo Immortalyou will be disappointed. But if you're looking for an authentic Diablo experience specially organized to play your favorite role-playing game, or with friends, you may want to try the game.
