A long awaited PlayStation feature could finally be launched

There is one characteristic among many others that players are desperately asking Sony. And after years of begging, Sony has finally agreed and it seems that the company can give the players what they asked for a particular feature of PlayStation platforms. I'm not quite sure why Sony took so long to offer this feature, but for the players who begged and implored it, it seems like it will happen as soon as possible.

Kotaku reports that NHP name changes could take place. The change will allow users to change their PSN credentials to new credentials, according to Kotaku's article. Name changes on the PlayStation Network are expected soon.

Supposedly, several studios are working with Sony on the changes and the changes are running so that they are compatible with the security and infrastructure configuration of the current PlayStation Network system.

These are not just hearsay, some material evidence has been provided to indicate that the change was at least under development. The proof was a screen copy of an internal documentation with a "change username" option and indicating that the documentation itself was intended to help developers implement the possibility of changing the user name of a PlayStation Network ID.

The article says that there is no deadline for launching this feature, but that it is in preparation. He also mentions that the new change could be problematic, since PSN credentials use account usernames related to the game identifier. Instead of having the account ID and the ID in the game as distinct identifiers. This means that you may be able to change your PlayStation Network ID while retaining your old user name when you enter certain PSN compatible games that rely on the old configuration.

It is probably for this reason that several studios are working with Sony on the problem so that they can update and upgrade their user identification systems to align with the new system proposed by Sony.

This feature has long been a requirement of gamers, as Sony's closest competitors, including Microsoft, Valve, and Nintendo, allow you to change your user ID while playing online. Now, you know that something is wrong when Nintendo, of all companies, allows you to change the name of your Nintendo Network profile when you play online by simply pressing a few buttons, but Sony does not.

Microsoft charges name changes on Xbox Live, but changing your unique game ID from the account settings is a relatively simple process.

Valve also allows you to change your user's display name in Steam, even if your account ID will remain static.

If Sony finally pressed this feature and implemented the name changes, the company would be tied with the rest of the competition.
