A new variant of the Huawei Mate 20 would now appear under the model name "EVR-xxxx" and could be linked to a device called "Everest" by employees, according to a new leak by Roland Quandt. Current speculation around Everest suggests that it will be either a Huawei Mate 20 Porsche Design, or a larger variation on the models that should be launched in October. The naming convention used also seems to suggest that this would be the last, taking into account the code names used for the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro – "Hima" and "Laya", respectively. Also, in June, a rumor also reported the release of the Mate 20 Pro equipped with a 6.9-inch flat screen provided by Samsung. So, it is very likely that this new device will leak if the leak is accurate.
Regardless of how Huawei could choose to market its device, if either scenario is true, it may be necessary to review some aspects of previous leaks. For beginners, the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are expected to come with a SoSilicon Kirin 980 SoC backed up by 6GB of RAM. There is not much to do to improve this chipset because it is currently marketed as the most powerful chip proposed by Huawei and has just been unveiled at the IFA 2018. Leaks suggest that the Huawei Mate 20 will be delivered a configuration of 4 GB also and who could be the differentiator. Everest can, for example, be the 8GB handset originally suspected to be the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Storage capacity is another area in which differentiation could be created, with previous leaks suggesting that this could start at 64GB of storage and push up to 512GB. Huawei's EMUI 9 system, based on Android 9 Pie, should also be part of the package.
That said, there have been conflicting reports on the remaining specifications and even on the size of the screen with which each confirmed handset will arrive. Huawei will not reveal all the details for about a month, meanwhile, and has not indicated that a third Mate 20 smartphone would arrive. The Huawei Mate 20 Lite has already been unveiled, so it is highly unlikely that this Huawei phone has a real relationship with that.
