A Verizon salesman gave me an excellent reason to buy Google's Pixel 3

It is difficult to hear above the noise Apple.

Especially when Apple launches not a phone, but three.

Nevertheless, Google has just released Pixel 3, a phone that has received much praise, as well as some snorts that do not store all your photos.

I wanted to see how Verizon – the exclusive provider of Pixel 3 – introduced this new phone.

So I went to a store in the Bay Area to find out.

As soon as I walked through the doors, it was there. Or rather, they were. Pixel 3 and 3 XL.

A nice salesman – I'm sorry, solutions specialist – I immediately tackled.

I explained that I had seen an ad for Pixel 3, one that showed how the phone would automatically correct your terrible photos.

"You can pose for a group photo and the photo will be taken only if everyone smiles," he said, a bit too smug.

"Wait, is not it a little scary?" I asked. "Everyone does not want to smile in pictures."

"You can replace him," he replied.

I asked him what was so good with the phone. He said that people were buying them and that it was a very well made phone "that is as good as iPhones or Samsung."

"But what about security?" I was wondering.

"It's just as good," he insisted.

Google is also safe? Tim Cook thinks that Google and Facebook are security Beelzebubs without clothes.

"Well, I should see what he said about Google and Facebook, but the Pixel is as well protected from hackers as the iPhone," he said.

"What phone do you have?" I asked.

"I have an iPhone 7, but my phone at work is a Note 9."

He took out his note and we compared his size to the Pixel 3 XL. They were quite comparable. He explained that the Pixel had less bloatware than the Note.

And then came his confession. Or maybe it was just a masterful sales tactic.

"I'm thinking of getting a pixel," he said.

"Really?"

That's when he presented his main reason for wanting: "It's just different .I'm stuck in the Apple ecosystem for so long and I just want a change."

"So, the best reason you can give me change, is that this phone is different?"

"Yeah, and I like colors." I would choose white or black. [Yes, Google really calls it that] is not for me. "

I can not imagine it for anyone. The color looks like that of a particularly pale Icelandic after two fast white Zinfandels.

Why, I asked him, had not he already bought one?

"Because I should start buying all the paid apps I have on my iPhone again," he said.

Yes, the only irritating factor for many to switch from Apple to Google.

I explained that it was difficult to decide on a phone when you know that Apple is preparing to launch another phone, the XR. He agreed, while reminding me that if I bought a Pixel or an iPhone XR, I could get a second one for free. (He was not an ordinary guy from Solutions. He was a specialist.)

"But you can not mix and match," he added usefully.

The day I visited Verizon, Google posted a new ad. It was called The Power to Amaze.

I left the Verizon store wondering if the Pixel 3 was a very good phone, but the main reason for buying it is that it is neither an iPhone nor a Samsung Galaxy.

Yes, the seller had tried to get me out of my iPhone by suggesting that I thought differently.
