A year later, Apple's AirPower wireless charging unit still has no release date.

The big Apple iPhone event has passed and the company has introduced its new iPhone XS, XS Max and XR models as well as the new version of the Apple 4 Series. But one thing was clearly missing: the Apple AirPower wireless charger latest the iPhone event of the year, and has not been published yet.

Today marks the first anniversary of the announcement of Apple AirPower, which was released alongside the iPhone X and the Apple Watch Series 3. At that time, Apple had promised that the AirPower charging station would be launched in 2018, but original announcement, we still have not heard any official updates from its March iPad event or the WWDC.

Now, there are still a few months to Apple in 2018 to keep its promise, as well as an event on iPad and Mac to be held later in the fall and where he could announce the charger. But the fact that another iPhone and Apple Watch event has managed to pass AirPower without an update does not bode potential for a 2018 version, especially since it is primarily Apple products intended for its customers.

More worrisome, though, is the fact that Apple has removed almost all mentions of the AirPower charger from its website, with hardly any images or details to find (the only mention live on the camera is found on the list of legal brands of Apple and Note on the page AirPods an "optional wireless charging box (currently unavailable)").

Without any update from Apple, it's hard to say why AirPower took so long to ship. Perhaps the additional layer of software integration over the existing Qi standard is proving more difficult to implement, or perhaps the technology used by Apple to allow multiple devices to recharge has encountered a problem. The technological problems are not foreign to Apple with regard to a new type of product; The company eventually delayed its HomePod speaker for several months, after promising a release date in December 2017 (released in February 2018). It's possible that Apple is looking to avoid a similar problem by proposing too promising and underperforming solutions with AirPower, but avoiding the topic completely does not seem to be an ideal solution.

While imitators continue to appear everywhere and a host of excellent wireless chargers are now available on the market (including those designed specifically for Apple phones), Apple is increasingly behind the charger wireless. And since there is no release date planned for the charger, it is almost certain that Apple will face much stronger competition when, or even if, it succeeds in shipping AirPower.
