You may have forgotten the Acura ILX, but the latest Acura Honda Civic is still alive and a great update for the year 2019 should help bring it back on the public radar.
The Acura ILX 2019 has undergone a major cosmetic revision. It is entirely new from the A pillars forward, adopting a sharper nose that draws from Acura precision concept to better align with other new Acura models like the 2019 RDX. At the rear, there is a new set of taillights, a new rear fascia and a redesigned lower diffuser.
The interior has fewer major changes. Its seats have received a heavier touch of style and a new Espresso interior design is on offer. The driver's seat also features electrically adjustable lumbar controls, and the start button is now more sophisticated. As for the technologies, its two-screen infotainment layout has been revised to be newer, the new software improves the response time by about 30% and integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It's a pity that ILX is not adopting the new RDX 2019 touch screen system.
Speaking of technology, the most notable update of the Acura ILX 2019 is the addition of AcuraWatch, which is now standard on all ILX models. AcuraWatch is the manufacturer's suite of active and passive safety systems, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane keeping assistance.
Regardless of the trim, all ILX models are equipped with the same powertrain. Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter I4 gasoline engine producing 201 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, as is an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
If you are looking for something more athletic, Acura will scratch this itch with the ILX A-Spec. This sport-inspired trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dark chrome exterior trim, LED fog lights, and a darker look for headlights and taillights. Inside, there are some A-Spec badges, as well as unique accents and seat seams. Unfortunately, there are no additional power or suspension upgrades. All variants of the Acura ILX 2019 were sold in October and prices are expected to be announced soon.
