We thought that at least part of Amazon's presentation today would be about home security, and we were not disappointed. Today, Amazon has announced a new Ring Camera and a new Alexa feature that has very interesting applications for keeping your home safe. Alexa's new features are collectively called Alexa Guard, and they will use the microphones and Internet capabilities of your Echo speakers to alert you if something goes wrong.
Amazon's explanation of Alexa Guard makes this feature relatively simple. When you leave the house, just say "Alexa, I'm leaving" to put your Echo speakers in guard mode. You will then receive smart alerts that will send you notifications when your Echo speakers detect noises out of their location.
Among the examples of Amazon we share today, there is the sound of broken glass or a smoke or carbon monoxide detector. Guard mode captures an audio clip of the sound and sends it to your phone so you can determine exactly what's going on. Alexa Guard will also be compatible with Ring and ADT, and assuming you have connected these security systems to your Echo devices, it will be able to send those records directly to the dispatch centers as soon as they notify you.
Alexa Guard has another interesting app in Away mode. When you are away from home for an extended period of time, such as during the night or on vacation, you can use Away mode to make your smart lights more random and to show that someone is at home.
Amazon took advantage of the news of Alexa Guard to launch the announcement of the Ring Stick Up Cam. It has not been too long to talk about the Stick Up Cam today, but we know that it can be used indoors and outdoors and will be launched in wired and wireless variants, with the wired model supporting Ethernet. The Ring Stick Up Cam will be launched later this year for $ 179.99, and we will definitely hear more details about it soon.
