When Apple launched the iPhone X in September 2017, people talked about two things: the face identification and screen design "Notch".
Some made fun of the face identification system, not least because the device did not have a fingerprint sensor. This conversation was, however, much quieter than the notch design debate.
Many quickly called the design ugly and downright stupid, with large publications like The edge describing it as "a strange design choice".
Consumers also reportedly said, "If Steve Jobs was alive, he would never have let that happen."
A year later, there is a long list of manufacturers of Android smartphones that have copied the design of the notch and have it integrated into their new devices. This includes the likes of Huawei and Google.
Apple has also released its new iPhone Xs devices that feature a similar notch design.
The list below shows which phones have adopted the design.

Samsung remains strong
Samsung is one of the key players to stay away from the trend of notch design.
Its two flagship products of 2018, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9, have a solid bezel at the top of their screens.
